Vegepup 14oz (400g)

For Growing Puppies & Nursing Mamas

Lasts a 10-lb puppy eating only home-prepared food about 2-months or a 20-lb puppy about 5 weeks.

Feed your puppy freshly prepared food for superior health!

Dogs are nutritionally omnivores but achieving the proper nutrient balance in any home-prepared diet is not easy, especially for a growing puppy. Luckily, Vegepup makes it pretty easy. Add this vitamin, mineral, and amino acid powder to high-protein plant-based food, using the Vegepup recipes in the recipe brochure that accompany your supplement, and you’ll have properly-supplemented plant-based meals your puppy will love and thrive on.
The Vegepup supplement is intended for use with the Vegepup recipes. A recipe brochures ship with the product. You can also find recipes at www.CompassionCircle.com/Vegepup or you can download the recipe brochure HERE. Please read the introductory portion of the recipe brochure thoroughly before preparing meals. Recipes list the amount of supplement required for that recipe. You may increase or decrease the amount of food you prepare by proportionally increasing or decreasing all ingredients in the recipe. If you create your own recipes, closely based on ours, divide the daily serving size between meals. It is best to mix the supplement into prepared warm food. If you modify our recipes, only substitute legumes for legumes or grains for grains, and be mindful of the protein content in your puppy’s diet. Puppies and pregnant or lactating dogs need roughly 30% protein in the diet. You can add a variety of fresh vegetables to our recipes but they should not make up more than 10% of the diet. If you add too many veggies, the calorie density, protein levels, and fat levels can be compromised.
Do not add Vegepup to commercial food; it is only intended to supplement home-prepared meals. Vegepup cannot make a dog food for an adult dog suitable for puppies. You can feed a combination of commercial food suitable for puppies and home-prepared food supplemented with Vegepup, but you should only supplement the home-prepared food.
Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are particularly important during the growth stage. The specific oils and flax ingredients in our recipes provide EFAs in the correct ratio but we highly recommend you add an algae oil to your puppy’s diet to provide DHA and EPA. If you use algae oil, you can use it in place of the flax oil in our recipes. One organic algae oil option is the Vegan Omega-3, 6, 9 Algae Oil we resell.
Our puppy recipes no longer require food yeast for B vitamins but we’ve kept the ingredient in recipes to keep the calorie and nutrient density in meals ideal. Food yeast — nutritional yeast or our VegeYeast, a modified brewer’s yeast (NOT active baker’s yeast) — is a wonderful ingredient to add flavor, protein, and additional nutrients to food. In addition, our VegeYeast is modified for acidity so is a good counterbalance to the alkalinity of a plant-based diet. Using VegeYeast is a precaution against the urine becoming too alkaline, leading to urinary issues. If you do not use food yeast in your recipes, the food will not have as many calories per cup as estimated, and the protein content of the recipes will be slightly less. If your recipes are modified to have fewer calories per cup, you might need to introduce an extra meal in the day to be sure your puppy eats enough calories for optimal health. Ask your vet or check a calorie calculator to determine how many calories to feed. Our recipes list a rough estimate of how many calories per cup they contain.
In addition to algae oil and VegeYeast, for optimal health, you can add a lactose-free digestive enzyme product to meals to aid digestion and increase nutrient absorption. Two choices we offer are Plant Enzymes & Probiotics and Enzyme Miracle. Either is a great choice. Puppies don’t do a lot of chewing, so blending or mashing ingredients like beans and rice can also help with digestion.
Lastly, our Green Mush™ superfood is the ultimate superfood for your animal companion and wonderful addition to your puppy’s diet. Green mush™ is a plant-based combination of green algae, sea vegetables, green grasses, and other superfoods that are dried at a low temperature to retain life force, enzymes, and maximum nutrient value. Green Mush™ is a perfect addition to any diet (including yours).
You will find additional recipes that use the Vegepup supplement in Dr. Pitcairn’s Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats (4th edition). Because the volume of the Vegepup supplement changed since the book’s first printing, serving size modifications are necessary in the book’s growth (Vegepup) recipes. See the following webpage for adjusted amounts, or add the supplement daily based on the daily serving size chart: www.CompassionCircle.com/Dr-Pitcairns-Guide. Alternatively, you may add 1 tablespoon (16g) of Vegepup for every 1000 calories.
