Feed your cat properly supplemented, home-prepared food for superior health.  Use ingredients you trust without using animal products.

While cats are carnivores, their nutritional needs can be met by a properly supplemented plant-based diet. The Vegecat™ supplement provides the nutrients cats require from non-animal sources, including: taurine, vegan vitamin D3, preformed vitamin A, as well as important amino acids: arginine, lysine, taruine, methionine, and L-carnitine. Vegecat™ recipes are carefully formulated to  provide ample protein, essential fatty acids in the correct ratio, and all else necessary for a healthy cat. We do not recommend adjusting recipes without consulting an animal nutritionist.
All Vegecat™ recipes include food yeast for B vitamins, protein, and acidity. We highly recommend using our VegeYeast, a brewer’s yeast modified for acidity. VegeYeast is a counterbalance to the alkalinity of a plant-based diet.
The ideal urine pH for a cat is 6.0 to 6.5. Urine pH can be tested at home or at a veterinarian’s office. Wet food is best for the urinary health of cats. If you primarily feed dry kibble, it is best to add moisture to the diet. Pureed vegetables add moisture and additional vitamins and minerals. Veggies should be no more than 10% of the diet to ensure the protein requirement is met. Please see the recipe brouchre for more information about urinary heatlh.
The Vegecat™ recipe brochure ships with the supplement, and recipes are available online at www.CompassionCircle.com/Vegecat. Please read the introductory portion thoroughly before preparing meals.
Our recipes list the amount of supplement required for that recipe. You may increase or decrease the amount of food you prepare by proportionally increasing or decreasing all ingredients in the recipe. Your cat’s weight determines how much he or she eats, and our recipes have the correct proportions to meet the nutritional requirements for a cat of any weight. It is best to mix the supplement into prepared warm food, but the supplement can also be added during the cooking process.
You will also find wonderful recipes in Dr. Pitcairn’s Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats (4th edition). Because the volume of the Vegecat™ supplement changed since the book’s first printing, serving size modifications are necessary. See the following webpage for adjusted amounts, or simply add the supplement daily based on the label chart: www.compassioncircle.com/dr-pitcairns-guide
PLEASE NOTE: The Vegecat™ supplement has been updated and Vegecat™ is no longer yeast-free. Our selenium source switched to bioavailable selenium yeast. We went back and forth over this decision but ultimately chose to use the superior selenium source for those able to use the supplement. Yeast intolerance is rare but is does happen. The amount of selenium yeast in the Vegecat™ supplement is 2.8 mg per 1g. It is our sincere hope that this amount is small enough to not be a problem and we apologize to those of you who find it is. Again, an intolerance is quite rare.
Additionally, the mineral sources in Vegecat™ were improved to more bioavailable amino acid chelates, some nutrient levels were increased, and L-carnitine was added.
Suggested Adjuncts:
For optimal health, add a lactose-free digestive enzyme to every meal. The digestive enzyme amalyse is particularly important for cats on a plant-based diet because amalyse helps break down starch and other carbohydrates. Digestive enzymes aid digestion and improve nutrient absorption. We resell both Enzyme Miracle and Plant Enzymes & Probiotics and recommend either to aid digestion.
Vegecat™ recipes use oils, flax, and hemp to provide Omega Fatty Acids (EFAs) in the diet. While this will provide the required Omegas in the right ratio, it is most ideal to add DHA and EPA. We highly recommend using a DHA + EPA algae oil daily. You can use that in place of or in addition to the flaxseed oil in our recipes. One organic option we resell is Vegan Omega-3, 6, 9 Algae Oil.
