Gratitude and Thanksgiving

Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.”
—Henri Frederic Amiel

Most of us are familiar with the law of attraction, what we put out into the Universe comes back to us in our lives. If we focus on what is positive, more positivity manifests; if we focus on compassion, more compassion is is evident in our lives and world. Gratitude is one of the most powerful emotions. There is no better way to attract the situations and people that make us thankful than to live each moment in gratitude.

As Thanksgiving approaches, many compassionate souls who recognize the need to spread compassion to all living beings get disheartened by the way our society in the United States celebrates this holiday. For some of us, it is difficult to move past the mass slaughter of sentient beings in the name of celebrating and giving thanks. The weight of that reality can make it challenging to embrace this time of year for what it can and does also represent, an opportunity to live in and express gratitude for loved ones and the compassion that IS in the world.

I would like to urge us all to be empowered by our thankfulness for what is. Let’s live in gratitude for the compassion that is manifest in the world and in so doing create a space for more compassion and love to spread. Let’s do what we can to move into a more empathetic and sensitive reality by using our words and actions to lead by example. Let’s embrace what we do have control over, and the example we can set for those we touch, without losing heart over the cruelty that does exist because the more we live in compassion, gratitude, and positivity, the more those beautiful elements will manifest in our world.

Wishing you and yours a happy, vegan holiday and many blessings!
