Mass produced commercial foods have to add a long list of isolated vitamins and minerals to make up for the deficiencies found in the bulk of their food.
With the Vegekit™ supplemented diet, your kitten will acquire most of the necessary nutrients from the fresh whole food that you supply, without the necessity of adding any animal products.
The best time to begin the transition to solid food is around 4 weeks of age. During this time have a small amount of available. The kitten will automatically seek out the Vegekit™ supplemented food and gradually wean away from mother’s milk. Ideally they’ll continue to nurse, but the consumption of solid food during mid-lactation helps maintain the queen’s weight.
If you acquire an older kitten weaned onto a commercial formula, make a gradual transition to avoid digestive upsets. This is true for whenever a change in diet is desired. Mix a little of the new food into the old food and gradually change the proportions.
Gestating and lactating queens need the same formulation of food as that for kittens. Consumption is most critical during the start of lactation, when the queen eats about 2-3 times her normal amount.
Youth is the best time to introduce your feline companion to a lifelong diet of healthy fresh food, supplies as much as possible from whole foods.
All Vegekit™ recipes contain food yeast (not to be confused with the kind that is used for baking). Brewers, nutritional (pale yellow color), or our very special high acid VegeYeast can be used in the recipes.
For optimum health add enzymes to each meal. If we fed all raw food the addition of enzymes wouldn’t even be necessary, but recipes focus on legumes and grains which are cooked. We recommend Prozyme® Plus enzymes, available from us for convenience.
